Australian pet food pulled from shelves after Perth dogs become ill


An Australian pet food brand has ceased the production and quarantined one of its products after reports dogs were becoming unwell after eating it. A Perth woman was one of the first to make a complaint to Black Hawk Pet Care after two of her golden retrievers became ill while on the food.

Vet Katherine Elizabeth Jean Barker guilty of unprofessional conduct for using drugs meant for animals


A MANDURAH vet has been found guilty of unprofessional conduct for self-medicating with Diazepam meant for animals. Katherine Elizabeth Jean Barker made false entries to clinical records on seven occasions last year to obtain the drug. Her actions came to light after discrepancies were discovered and reported by the owners of Halls Head Small Animal Clinic, where she did some work as a temporary locum.

Vet and pet store giant Greencross set for private equity takeover


Australia's largest vet clinic and pet store owner Greencross is heading towards private ownership, after the group accepted a $5.55 per share takeover bid from TPG Capital. The company - which owns 250 pet stores under the Petbarn and City Farmers brands, as well as 190 vet clinics and emergency animal hospitals - is coming under pressure as online players including Amazon squeeze in on its market, and TPG says private ownership will enable Greencross to continue to grow.
