'We really can't cope': Why Gumtree is being blamed for a rising stray cat population


Gumtree advertisements for free cats are being blamed for the high number of stray kittens overwhelming volunteer foster carers in Canberra. Posts on the online marketplace, by people looking to offload a kitten or cat, were exacerbating the problem, foster carer Vanessa Parton said, because the animals were less likely to be de-sexed and owners had not been screened before taking on a pet.

AI could help veterinarians code their notes


Scientists at Stanford University have developed an artificial intelligence algorithm called DeepTag that analyzes veterinarians' clinical notes and predicts diseases for which particular animals may be at risk. The scientists worked with Colorado State University veterinarians, who assigned disease codes to more than 100,000 clinical notes, and the platform is expected to be publicly available soon.
