Veterinarians facing mental strains in a job that is full of emotional pressure


Veterinarians need greater mental health support to curb alarming statistics that show they have a suicide rate four times that of the general population, a NSW Southern Highlands vet says.

Mittagong veterinarian Dr Bob Rheinberger has been in the business for 30 years, but it is over the last decade that he said the industry has become aware of the mental toll the job can have on its professionals.

Dog baiting: RSPCA reports spike in poisoning due to neighbourhood noise disputes


The RSCPA is concerned after a spike in dog-baiting incidents in the Brisbane and Sunshine Coast areas in the past six weeks. Most recently, a neighbourhood dispute allegedly resulted in a young dog in Coolum being poisoned with rat bait and other poisons disguised in meat.
